A Design of Wireless Sensor Network and its Protocols for Collecting Vehicle Data
I will prepare for presenting paper entitled "A Design of Wireless Sensor Network and its Protocols for Collecting Vehicle Data" at ITS AP 2009 (http://its-ap2009.in.th/)
Abstract—We propose a development of a wireless sensor network for traffic data collection. The system architecture consists of a sensor, processor, RF transceiver and antenna. The collecting device is called sensor node and is placed at the monitored location. It collects and processes signal of interest for useful information such as vehicle count, occupancy time, speed and classification. Then it transmits this information to a server node located nearby. The server node is basically another sensor node without the sensor and is usually connected to a data server such as a PC. The communications take place over the air on one side between the sensor node and the server node, and the other side between the server node and PC over a wired connection such as RS232/RS485. We develop a communication protocol sufficient for our task of collecting traffic data and relay it to the data server. The protocol covers the necessary functions defined in the data-link layer and MAC layer. These include addressing, acknowledgement, error control, and medium access functions. The protocol we develop can be extended for a number of different sensors, different data types that are not covered in this report. It is provided as a platform for a wireless sensor network that is suitable for traffic data collection or any similar application.
